Case Study – A Groundworker
14/07/2022
This short case study is going to look at a Groundwork company in the North of England, whose focus was on underground pipework, drainage, sewage, and general groundwork. The client’s renewal was in 24 hours’ from when we started discussions so required a fast turnaround time.
Kris began the process with an overview and assessment of their current policies and covers. This immediately raised an issue. The policy had a depth exclusion below 2m which for a ground worker working on Sewer lines and pipe work meant that a proportion of the work they currently undertook would have been excluded by the policy because of its depth. This needed to be increased to 5m. Another issue was that the client was currently listed as a builder for their trade, making the policy not fit for purpose as it doesn’t represent what the client actually does. These issues were highlighted to the client as well as checking the current cover limits which were adjusted to meet the client’s needs, particularly tools cover which needed to be raised from £1000 to £10,000!
With these changes in mind, Kris approached a number of markets, managing to turn around a number of quotes by that afternoon, with wide variations of cost and cover. The product recommended to the client came from an insurer whose product focused on higher risk liabilities such as Groundworkers working at depth and provided the full scope of cover. On top of this, they were doing so at a competitive price close to what the client currently paid but, with greatly improved cover. The client was pleased with these results and proceeded with this new policy right away.
This case study highlights the importance of a thorough review being undertaken of client requirements to ensure that covers are met. Every business is different and we feel a tailored approach is required, as accidents can happen any time and if like this client there is an exclusion or limit on a policy it can end with hefty payments to be met.
